Strange anime crushes, we all have them. Some of us, myself included, even have a whole host of them. If pouring through all of the objects of my affection has taught me anything it’s that, rare is it that I’m actually attracted to anybody nice and normal. No, it seems I have a disturbing (and somewhat embarrassing) predilection towards literal monsters, the mentally unstable, the arrogant or otherwise overconfident, or anybody in possession of a nice, fluffy tail. Below are five more of these far from wholesome crushes…
Bleach
#18 Who Is Your Favourite (Female) Supporting Character?
Yoruichi Shihouin
Bleach has many, many flaws, including its overpowered protagonist, its sheer volume of filler, and its inability to tell a concise story (though these issues are by no means unique to this anime). Regardless, I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for it, partly due to the time I spent watching it (keep tuning into an anime every week for years and it’s bound to grow on you) and partly due to its amazing cast of diverse, lovable characters. Yoruichi, the free-spirited former captain of Soul Society’s 2nd Division is, by far, my favourite of these characters as well as my all-time favourite female supporting character. Here’s why!
So, after just over 7 years, (of which I’ve been following it for just under 3 of those years) Bleach has finally drawn to a close, and in such a spectacularly bad fashion! Actually, it wasn’t awful, it was just really anticlimactic, definitely not the kind of epic finale I’d envisioned when I first started Bleach all them years ago. I definitely consider myself among those fans who think they should have rounded things off after Aizen’s defeat. But, enough of that- I’m sure there’s plenty of bitching about the finale across the net right now so, instead I thought I’d say goodbye to Bleach in my own way: by listing some of the things it did well, the things I’ll miss the most now that it’s over.
It’s no secret that Bleach and I have a tumultuous relationship, one minute I regard it in the same disgust as I do a sticky, smelly, stroppy infant, the next, I am deeply in love with it. Right now I’ve entered into a, doubtless brief, period of infatuation with the show; this is largely to do with the fact that Ichigo’s really being put through the wringer right now. I mean, he’s in some seriously deep shit! To the average reader, it may seem as though I dislike Ichigo but, they couldn’t be more wrong, I actually think he’s a great character! So, why do I revel in his misfortunes to the extent I do?
