That’s right, Naruto again! A thousand apologies, but thanks to its large, varied, and well-developed cast of characters, it’s one of my favourite franchises! So when discussing the topic of favourite characters, my mind often drifts to it!
Sasuke might seem like a bizarre choice for this month’s Character Spotlight. After all, I’ve been very vocal in my dislike of him, even going so far as to call him a piece of human excrement during a recent blog post. So why have I decided to write about Sasuke, of all people, this month? Well, after almost 10 years of watching Naruto Shippuden, I’m finally just eight episodes away from finishing it – cue the party poppers! This means that I recently watched Naruto and Sasuke’s final fight in the Final Valley. This fight gave me a lot of insight into Sasuke’s character, so much so that, for the first time ever, I felt that, whilst he might not be a very nice person, he is, for sure, an excellent character! I hope that you’ll stay with me as I unpack this statement.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Naruto was one of my first forays into the anime world. That alone makes it pretty special to me. But another reason why Naruto’s so special to me is because Kakashi Hatake, Team 7’s leader and mentor, was the first anime character to really make a lasting impression on me.
Following last week’s blog post on anime fans being angry people, here’s a list of the times when anime has made me angry. I promise not to resort to cursing or making threats while writing this! Spoilers for Naruto/Naruto Shippuuden and Blood-C.
Thought for my second post I’d write about another show that holds some kind of emotional significance for me. It seems to me that there is some kind of taboo in the blogosphere against professing a fondness for any of the ‘Big 3’ but, I’ve never been reluctant to shout from the rooftops my love of Naruto. Whilst Death Note was my first anime, Naruto was the first one I ever truly fell in love with, (if Death Note were Rosaline, Naruto would be Juliet) therefore, eager was I to use this project as an opportunity to sing its praises once more. But, not having the time to re-watch the entire 220 episode long series in one, or even a few weeks I had to resort to selecting but one of my favourite moments. The few episodes I’m about to focus on were one of many reasons I found myself becoming so emotionally invested in the show.
Watashi Wa Bucho!!
