Assassination Classroom (AC) is a show about a class of F-grade misfits who are one day given the task of assassinating their new homeroom teacher. And if that’s not strange enough, their teacher, Koro-sensei, is actually a seemingly untouchable, tentacled creature who threatens to destroy Earth should they fail in their assassination. Review
Shin Sekai Yori is a show I’ve dedicated a lot of time to as a blogger. The task of writing a post on each episode every week was made a lot easier by the fact that I actually really enjoyed it, and always had something to say about it! I actually had too much to say about the show at times, which is why I’ve now decided to write a review on it. I’d like to be able to compile the most important thoughts I’ve had on the show during those 25 weeks into one post. Who knows, maybe it will help someone reading this to decide whether or not they want to watch the show? One can only dream!!
I won’t waste time by giving you a synopsis- if you want one, read it here on MAL- I’m just gonna launch right into it!!!
Now that I’ve seen more than enough anime to last me a lifetime, I find I must now approach prospective shows with more of an open mind than before, which is why, more and more, I’m choosing to watch western cartoons as opposed to anime. So when one of my good friends suggested I try Gravity Falls, her latest obsession, it really didn’t take much convincing! Gravity Falls revolves around the bizarre lives of Mabel and Dipper, twins banished to their crazy uncle’s, and who, soon after arriving, experience all manner of supernatural goings-on- and it’s really very good, a lot better than some of the anime I’ve seen, and that’s why I’ve decided to write about it!!
‘Skeptical’ is the word which best sums up my feelings when I sat down in front of my laptop and prepared myself to watch the Nazo no Kanojo X OVA. I’ve had a less than savoury experience with OVAs in the past, finding they do little to add to the show, existing mainly to provide fans with the excessive fanservice forbidden by the show either due to the time it airs on TV or by the fact they had to stay suitable for their target audience- and considering Nazo no Kanojo’s pushed boundaries within its TV show (which are always, comparatively, more reserved)… well, can you understand my cause for concern? I was also worried it wouldn’t make up for the slightly boring finale of the show, but stupid me, I should’ve learnt from experience that it’s pointless making any kind of pre-conceived assumptions when about to watch Nazo no Kanojo- ‘cause it will always end up doing something completely out of the left field! Still, there was fanservice… But that’s almost a given in OVAs today, isn’t it?
So, Friday the 13th I found myself heading off to Leicester Square, London, (rape alarm at the ready) for the UK premiere of Studio Ghibli’s new movie ‘From up on Poppy Hill’. I was blown away by how many people turned up as when I’d brought tickets to go see one of the first UK screenings of Arriety last summer only a handful of people were there at the cinema, and most of them were just little’ns with their parents. The atmosphere was, therefore, a tad more alive, and I’m guessing, from the round of applause it received afterwards, it was well-received but, what did I think of it?
