Now that I’ve seen more than enough anime to last me a lifetime, I find I must now approach prospective shows with more of an open mind than before, which is why, more and more, I’m choosing to watch western cartoons as opposed to anime. So when one of my good friends suggested I try Gravity Falls, her latest obsession, it really didn’t take much convincing! Gravity Falls revolves around the bizarre lives of Mabel and Dipper, twins banished to their crazy uncle’s, and who, soon after arriving, experience all manner of supernatural goings-on- and it’s really very good, a lot better than some of the anime I’ve seen, and that’s why I’ve decided to write about it!!

Now, this is probably a bit of an obvious choice. Nisemonogatari’s ‘tooth-brush sex’ is a sure-fire contender for everyone’s list this festive season, and with due reason- it was bleedin’ brilliant! For those not in the know (just where have you been!?), it involves the show’s main character Araragi subjecting his younger sister, Karen, to psychological torture, in the form of brushing her teeth. That sounds weird enough as it is, but wait, it gets weirder! The pair get a little too into the entire rigmarole, if you know what I mean… Mental, no? But brilliant regardless.
So, as expected, a bit of a cop-out finale! It was OK, in a kind of fluffy, sickeningly sweet way, and I’m sure that’ll blow up somebody’s skirt, but I dunno, it just felt like the director decided to play it safe, a little disappointing given that the show’s been pushing boundaries almost since its start and that this is, you know, the finale, which should, ideally, be mega exciting and have you in tears over the fact there may never be any more episodes ever again by its conclusion!!
So now that the show’s done enough establishing of the characters, strengthening the bond between our two love-birds and indicating an obvious attraction between them, I wanted to see a substantial amount of progression in their relationship with this episode, something like their first kiss, or whatever. It just feels that, providing the show is going to culminate in the pair losing their virginity to one another, (as suggested by episode one) it ought to start heading in that direction now that it’s half over. But, of course, Nazo no Kanojo X- always eager to buck the trend- was not quick to cater to this viewer’s expectations of it!
